Yip, I’m one of those crazies who has an Instagram account for my dogs. There are actually hundreds of thousands of pet accounts on Instagram, where people as nuts as me — and frequently even more so — post photographs of their dogs’ every move, write in funny ‘dogspeak’ and see the world through their pet’s eyes. It’s surprisingly liberating — you should try it! My dogs’ Insta account is @rusty_and_dvd. It follows the adventures of my 6 year old Hungarian Vizsla Rusty and DVD, his younger sisfur, a Weimaraner. Go check it out. Have a laugh on me.
ALWAYS READY TO POSE FOR A PHOTO
The dogs have taken part in many shoots, because most of my photography work is done at home in my studio there. And Rusty in particular always has his eye on an opportunity to earn treats and attention. He’s been on the cover of Love Your Home magazine and featured in numerous issues.
MAKING IT IN THE “MOVIES”
Rusty has even played a fleeting role in a video I did on painting a dog kennel, as supervisor — or shall I saw suPAWvisor! Look out for DVD at the end, playing the role of cute little pup at the age of about 14 weeks!
BIG MOMENT OF FAME
Rusty’s many little cameos for brands led up to his one big moment when he got the limelight all to himself. Makro launched online shopping for pet accessories and Rustz was the leading man in a cast of one. It was shot in my studio, just me with the camera, filming and directing him. He loved every minute of it …
RUSTY ADDS AUTHENTICITY TO WHAT IS ESSENTIALLY PRODUCT PHOTOGRAPHY
For Rusty, who is hyperactive and highly intelligent, posing for photoshoots and videos gives him something to occupy his brain. He had to learn a few tricks before I actually filmed the Makro video, and he catches on so quickly and eagerly.
But I guess what I really wanted to tell you was that I never planned all this. He came to me as a 2 year old from a loving family who had trained him to do quite a lot already. How fortuitous that he has a face that the camera loves!
